Soul Check is an independent writing and education project by John K. Burgess. This version has no newsletter registration, contact form, comments, advertising, or visitor analytics added by Soul Check. You do not need to submit personal information to read the writing or download the reflection guide.
The hosting platform may process technical information needed to operate and protect the website, including request and access records. LinkedIn is an external service with its own privacy practices. Opening a LinkedIn link takes you to that service.
Ask Soul Check
Ask Soul Check is an AI companion, not John, a human peer specialist, a clinician, or a crisis service. It has no lived experience or professional credentials. Replies may be incorrect. It does not diagnose, prescribe, monitor safety, or contact emergency services.
Before starting, visitors acknowledge that their messages and recent conversation are sent through Soul Check’s server to OpenAI to generate replies. Please avoid names, contact information, workplace/client details, and other identifying information. No account or identifying information is required.
Soul Check does not save conversation transcripts or add advertising or conversation analytics. Conversation context is held in page memory and disappears on reload, closing the page, or choosing Clear conversation. The server temporarily processes messages and requests that OpenAI not store responses using store:false. This does not guarantee zero retention: OpenAI may retain abuse-monitoring data for up to 30 days, with exceptions. API data is not used for model training by default. OpenAI data controls.
To protect costs and prevent abuse, Soul Check stores monthly budget counters and limited rate counters derived from a day-specific keyed hash of the connecting IP address. These do not contain messages or raw IP addresses. Hosting services may retain technical access and security records under their own policies.
John does not monitor conversations. This is not confidential clinical care. Use the resources page for human support. AI replies may pause when usage limits are reached; articles and resources remain available.
